We had scheduled a 2-hour kayak tour and got rained out. The staff were so helpful and nice and were able to reschedule us for the next morning. Our guide, Ethan, was knowledgeable, kind, courteous and professional. He is a Marine Biologist and shared a lot of great information about the ecology of Shem Creek, and the ocean and marshlands. The kayaking itself was very slow as you are trying to stay in a group. We had a great experience, and we saw 4 dolphins during our short kayak trip. I would definitely recommend this tour!

We took the kayak tour of Wambaw Blackwater Creek in the Francis Marion National Forest with our two kids ages 10 and 13. It was a beautiful paddle up stream for an hour and 1/2 and then an even more relaxing paddle/ float downriver for another hour and 1/2. Our guide Jay was a good combination of interesting facts and guide as well as just letting us paddle and enjoy the scenery. We saw a couple small alligators, an owl and lots of birds. We had previously done a kayak trip with Nature Adventures on Shem Creek 2 years ago and enjoyed that as well. We saw lots of dolphins and birds on that trip. Two very different paddles, each equally enjoying. Good for beginners or experienced paddles.

What a treat! We had a very leisurely kayak adventure. I didn’t feel like I had to work to keep up with the group. We had a great time kayaking Shem Creek and were excited to see dolphins in both the harbor and the channel.

This place is the best! Amazing staff and a wonderful experience out on the water! Highly recommend!

We had a great time on the tour with Ethan. He was full of information and it was a lot of fun. We didn't see any dolphins, but it was a beautiful day. This was my first time kayaking and would do it again. The crew was very helpful and it was much easier than I expected.

My nephew and his wife were visiting me from MI. Charlie was our tour guide and he shared so many fun , fascinating and historical facts about Shem Creek and Cran Island. It will always be a great memory for us all thinking back on the beautiful weather, calm waters full of Dolohins surrounding us and great conversations.

Great tour guide! Good weather. Lots of activity on the water but we still felt safe. Only downside was that we didn't see any dolphins.

What a great experience! It was a beautiful day on the water, and Elizabeth was an excellent guide. I had kayaked a couple of times before but didn’t really know the proper techniques. She taught our beginner group to paddle forward and backwards and turn in a circle in a way that was efficient. She was patient and knowledgeable and made us all feel comfortable on the water. I can’t wait to go back!

Had a great kayaking tour. Charlie was an excellent tour guide, who was very outgoing and knowledgeable about the area. Kayaked next to several dolphins and learned about the surrounding areas. The guys back in the office were great, as well, helping us with the kayaks and holding our valuables while we were on the tour. Would recommend to everyone.

We went and did the Hampton Plantation Paddle in June. It was a nice hot day when we went and there was not much shade. I anticipated that there would be much more shade on the river. Overall all of the participants were nice. The kayaks we rented were ok. I actually prefer a shorter kayak but these are used for the ocean as well. Elizabeth was our guide and she was extremely nice and informative. She knew a lot about the different bird and plant species, Overall a nice day on the water.

My daughter and I had a wonderful time paddling together. The best surprise was our guide Steve, who entertained us with his knowledge of local history!

Ask for Ethan. Very easy, casual paddle. Ethan’s knowledge about local wildlife and other tidbits was really valuable.

My husband and I took the 2 hour guided tour. While not completely new to kayaking , we are still beginners and larger adults. They picked kayaks that fit is comfortably and we had a wonderful time paddling around the are. Our guide, Eric is a birder and nature lover and talked at length about the local wildlife and flora. The pace was relaxed and allowed plenty of take in the gorgeous scenery. While we would eventually like to bring our own kayaks and do some exploring on our own we felt that is was important to gain some more experience and learn more about the waterways before we took off solo. Looking forward to booking another tour with Nature Adventures on our next trip.

Excellent trip as always - Charlie was very informative

I booked a 2-hour kayak tour for me and my two kiddos (ages 14 and 10). I emailed this company days ahead of time to share that my son is Autistic and they confirmed they'd be able to assist us with our visit. Despite everything I did ahead of time, my son had a meltdown while on the kayak, partly because we were so separated from the group/tour guide, and partly because his fears just naturally kicked in. I ended up returning after only one-hour with my son (paid full-price, but it is what it is, as I knew we could get there and he wouldn't even want to try and I'd be out of the money already paid - it's happened before!), who was shaking he was so scared. It took me a while to fully calm him down, as well as settle myself, as I was rattled due to his meltdown. I was very thankful for the staff, particularly Ethan who helped us get into and out of the water, as well as another gentleman who helped tow my 14-year-old back to the shore. However, I was so disappointed to receive my receipt and see this captured in their notes (not sure if they know that their customers can see this?). They did not ask me how the tour went, despite us returning early (clearly indicating an issue), nor how my Autistic son did. It honestly brought tears to my eyes to see this note because, as a parent of a kid with special needs, you always try your best. Not everything goes how you want it to go, and it DOES impact you as a mom because you want your kid to experience as much as possible, but you learn. This time, I was SO proud of my son for wanting to and trying to kayak, but I learned that he does not want to do it again. However, I learned that my daughter (14 y/o) absolutely LOVED it and WANTS to do it again! I hope this business will learn from this and do better with all parents, especially those of us parenting by ourselves (kids with special needs or not), because we could all be blessed by additional supporters in our village, no matter how big or how small.

We had a perfect morning with cloud cover and very gentle breezes to moderate the heat. Ben was very knowledgeable and made the tour really interesting by sharing all kinds of historical and scientific information. In summer we were very glad we took the 8am tour.

We totally enjoyed the sunset tour. The guide was interesting and the paddling was relaxed. The long kayaks made for an easy and stable ride.

Kayaking for two hours was fun, and I learned a lot!

Our guide, Teresa, was awesome. She was able to keep 5 teens / pre-teens engaged in the adventure for the full 3 hours. A couple of the boys had not kayaked before and she was able to get them up to speed quickly. We were able to see a number of alligators, barred owls, crab, a water snake, and overall enjoy nature. Definitely a day they will remember.

We took a blackwater kayak tour trip on Wambaw Creek. The positives first. The trip itself was a lot of fun. Beautiful scenery, the guide was very informative, and we had a lot of fun. We even saw a couple small alligators. Also, the online directions to the starting point were very helpful and specific. They made sure to tell me over the phone to take printed directions, as phones and gps lose signal before you arrive. I had two major critiques. One is that the size of the group was too large to be optimally enjoyable. There were 9 in our party and it was impossible to stay close enough to the guide to hear what she was saying without bumping into each other a million times. If you went single file, maybe the first 3 or 4 people could hear her. Otherwise, it was constant crashing. My husband called it bumper kayaks. It would've been much better with a smaller group. The second problem is that they did not tell us there was no bathroom there. Even though I specifically told them that I was nearly 6 months pregnant. The last available bathroom is at the Shell gas station, miles before you reach your destination. The guide was apologetic, and nice enough to walk us to a spot with no poison ivy....but it was still visible to the rest of the group. Again, being 6 months pregnant, I had to have my husband help me. Mortifying to say the least. It should definitely be listed clearly on the website that there are no bathrooms (I was on the website multiple times and never saw any message like that) and especially when I spent all that time with someone on the phone, I should have been made aware of that. Other than those two things, we all had a great time.

Makin’ memories is my mantra and Nature Adventures on Shem Creek must consider it theirs, too. I secured a two-hour guided excursion for our family. Our guide, Ben, was stellar. We learned, laughed, and left ready to book with them again.
